Attio is not the right CRM for everyone. Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho and Pipedrive are also great products. If your business is a sales team selling a product or services to customers, one of them will probably suit you well.
Whether Attio is right for your business comes down to a few signals. Attio is worth a close look if any of these apply:
- Your business does not fit the standard “contact, company, deal” model.
- You have tried a mainstream CRM before and your team stopped using it.
- You do not have, and do not want, an in-house CRM administrator.
- You have fewer than 100 users.
If that sounds like you, here are the pros and cons: four reasons Attio may be a better fit, and where it isn’t.
1. It holds the records your business actually uses
What it does: Any user can create a new record type and link it to others in minutes. Projects, properties, investors, candidates, suppliers, contracts, grants. Whatever you need.
How that compares, Attio vs Salesforce: Salesforce can do this, but you need an administrator or developer. On Attio vs HubSpot, HubSpot only allows it on its most expensive plan. Pipedrive cannot do it. Zoho can, and comes closest.
Why it matters: Your team sees their own words on screen, not someone else’s sales process. Reports and automations work on your real records.
2. One record, many lists, each with its own fields
What it does: In Attio, a list is more than a saved search. The same company can sit in several lists, and each list can hold its own fields. A company might be in “Prospects” with a score, and in “Partners” with a renewal date, without cluttering the main record.
How that compares: In mainstream CRMs, a list is just a filter. Every field has to live on the record itself. Records get crowded and teams end up fighting over the same fields.
Why it matters: Different teams can track what they need about the same customer without getting in each other’s way.
3. AI that works on every record without being asked
What it does: You can add an AI field to any record type. For example: “summarise our last three months of contact”, “score this lead against our criteria”, “find this company’s latest news”. Attio fills it in for every record, keeps it current, and can research the web to do so. The result can be filtered and reported on like any other field.
How that compares: Salesforce and HubSpot offer AI assistants you have to prompt. AI as a field type, running across your whole database, is still rare at SME prices.
Why it matters: The thinking happens in the background. Your team sees the answer, not the question.
4. Records that build themselves from your inbox and calendar
What it does: Connect email and calendar. Attio creates people and companies from your messages and meetings, then adds job titles, company details and other public information. No setup.
How that compares: Most CRMs can log emails against existing records. Salesforce can create and enrich records with paid add-ons. Attio does it as standard.
Why it matters: The main reason CRMs fail is that nobody updates them. Most of the record is there before anyone types.
Where another CRM would serve you better
Who should use Attio, and who shouldn’t? We are vendor-neutral, so we will say this plainly:
- You need many ready-made connections to other software. HubSpot and Salesforce have more.
- You need built-in marketing, quoting, invoicing or a customer service desk. Look at Zoho or HubSpot.
- You run a straightforward product sales team. Pipedrive is simpler and cheaper.
- You need a mature, heavily documented platform with a large pool of consultants. Attio is newer and some areas are still developing.
In short
Attio is not unique. It is a better fit for businesses whose data does not match a sales CRM, who want the system to keep itself up to date, and who want to change it themselves. If that is you, we can help you decide, and then build it.
